PRAIRIE FAMILY - ACRYLIC
THESE ARE NEW PAINTINGS AND WORK I HAVE CREATED IN 2009 AND THE LATTER PART OF 2008
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I MOSTLY AIM TO PAINT AND SCULPT WORK THAT GOES BELOW THE SURFACE OF WHATS PRESENTED. SOMETIMES THE WORK PRESENTS AS HUMOROUS AND THE PIECE STOPS AT THAT LEVEL. OFTEN I GO OR TRY TO GO BEYOND THAT LEVEL AND AFTER THE FIRST LOOK IT BECOMES SOMETHING MORE THAN WHATS PRESENTED. HOPEFULLY IT LEADS TO SOME MYSTERY AND SOMETHING BEYOND. IF IT IS AMBIGUOUS AND CHANGING FROM DAY TO DAY FOR ME I FEEL I AM SUCCESSFUL. THE MORE QUESTIONS A WORK ELICITS THE MORE ALIVE IT IS. THE MORE MYSTERIOUS AND AMBIGUOUS AND UNPREDICTABLE IT IS THE MORE VITAL AND ALIVE IT BECOMES. ONE DAY IT CAN MEAN ONE THING THE NEXT DAY IT COULD CONVEY ANOTHER MEANING. FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE AT DIFFERENT TIMES IT BECOME AND CARRIES WITH IT OTHER MEANINGS.
LIKE LIFE, I WOULD LIKE MY WORK TO CARRY WITH IT THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE AND MYSTERY. THE VIEWER SHOULD NOT KNOW COMPLETELY WHAT IT MEANS. IF THE MESSAGE IS TOO STRONG IT BECOMES BORING AND SAYS THE SAME THING TO YOU AND OTHERS FROM DAY TO DAY -THERE IS NO CHANGE AND AFTER A WHILE THE WORK DIES. TO REMAIN ALIVE IT MUST CONTINUE TO DEVELOPE AND CHANGE - IT NEEDS TO BE MYSTERIOUS AND AMBIGUOUS TO A CERTAIN EXTENT.
